The DGFT develops and publishes Foreign Trade Procedures that an exporter or importer must follow to execute the Foreign Trade Act and Foreign Trade Policy requirements.

Providing the IEC code. 

All imports and exports are subject to an IEC Code. It is a one-of-a-kind ten-digit registration code provided by DGFT. This number aids in tracking and managing an exporter's or importer's shipments. The IEC code can be issued with a valid PAN. An exporter or importer can apply for IEC code with dgft. 

Aside from all these tasks, this body also works in the direction of international business. The "Ease of Doing Business" for exporters & Importers is also aligned by the export-import procedures of dgft. These programmes have been adopted through Foreign Trade Policy, and the application process has been defined in Foreign Trade Procedure.
